Dell: new XPS laptops, with, and yes, AI (and they are still beautiful)
Just before CES 2024, Dell announced that it would introduce three new models in its XPS series, each of them with AI-powered performance and features. The trio consists of the XPS 13, XPS 14 and XPS 16. Before we delve into what makes each model unique, let’s first review what they have in common.
All laptops will be equipped with an Intel Core Ultra processor. The processor will host an artificial intelligence acceleration engine, as well as a neural processing unit (NPU).
The NPU can be considered as a third resource that is separate from the processor and the graphics card. It lightens the workload of the laptop while helping the battery to maintain its longevity. In addition, the models will be equipped with ExpressCharge software, which allows users to recharge their computer from zero to 80% in about an hour.
What are the differences between the three laptops?
When it comes to AI functions, the most important (and arguably the game-changing one) is Windows Copilot, an on-device assistant that can answer all your burning questions, create content or help you execute certain commands, among other things. There will even be a special button on the keyboard to quickly launch the wizard.
As for the differences, it all comes down to the different designs of the XPS laptops.
The XPS 13, for example, is the lightest of the lot, with a weight of 1.2 kg. Contrasting with its featherweight, it will house a powerful OLED touch screen with a resolution of 3K Plus, with options for screens with a resolution of Full HD Plus and Quad HD Plus if you want something a little cheaper. If all this sounds familiar to you, it is because it is a model similar to that of the XPS 13 Plus from 2023. In fact, they are very similar to each other.
What’s new for the top of the range from Dell?
It seems that Dell did not think to review the design of the XPS 13 Plus when it worked on the 2024 model. The main difference between the two is the AI improvement mentioned above.
Next comes the XPS 14 which, as you can guess, is larger than the XPS 13 since it has a 14.5-inch screen. The size is not the only thing that distinguishes it since customers can choose to equip it with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 graphics card to play or work on videos. In addition, it comes with NVIDIA Studio, a suite of software tools for creative professionals.

Finally, we have the XPS 16 which is an improved version of the XPS 14. It has a large number of identical features, but on a larger scale. For example, you have the option of getting an RTX 4070 GPU. It even has the best screen in the entire range with the option of a 4K Plus OLED screen.
These three XPS laptops will be launched later this year, starting at $ 1,300, without it being known exactly when they will arrive.
