OneDrive: will soon be able to fully manipulate their files offline
Microsoft is planning a significant improvement for OneDrive. It will allow you to work totally with all your files offline. In an update to its Microsoft 365 roadmap, the company has revealed this new OneDrive option, known as offline mode.
Scheduled to be available in preview in November and for a general release in December, offline mode will allow you to access your files via your browser when you are offline, then synchronize all the changes when you are online again.
“This feature will allow you to launch OneDrive in your browser and view, sort, rename, move, copy and delete files even without internet access,” says Microsoft. In addition, for locally stored OneDrive files (those marked as “always available offline”), you will be able to open and work on them in your browser even if you are not online. All changes made offline will be automatically synchronized when the internet connection is restored.”
AI in OneDrive
Currently, the offline capabilities of OneDrive are limited. Without Internet access, you cannot connect to your OneDrive online storage space or work on your files via the browser. You can recover your OneDrive files in Windows, but only if you have chosen to keep them on the device. The ability to use and manage your files offline more easily will help anyone who has to work in a remote location without an internet connection.
OneDrive is one of those tools that work in the background, and therefore do not always receive attention. Even Microsoft has not launched major improvements for the platform for some time, opting instead for minor updates from time to time. But OneDrive will therefore be the subject of essential improvements.
Last week, Microsoft announced an online event scheduled for October 3 at 13 p.m. (French time). Titled “Microsoft OneDrive: The future of file management is here”, the event will highlight the new features of the file storage service and give an overview of how AI will power new searches, shares and queries for your files.
In the context of excitement around artificial intelligence, Microsoft has already improved many of its products by equipping them with artificial intelligence. Now it’s OneDrive’s turn to feed on AI.
At the end of the event, Microsoft will allow participants to ask questions as part of a live chat. Interested participants can add the OneDrive event to their calendar and follow a link to join the event via Microsoft Teams when it starts.
