This is no coincidence! The first global AI security summit will be held at... Bletchley Park

The rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has opened a new era of innovation. That’s why leaders from all over the world will return to the roots of IT for the first global summit on AI.

On Thursday, the British government announced that Bletchley Park, which it describes as “one of the cradles of computing”, will host an AI security summit on November 1 and 2. This summit will bring together representatives of governments from various countries, and leaders of companies specializing in AI.

The topics covered will be the risks related to AI, how these threats can be mitigated at the international level through coordinated action and the creation of a common approach for safe technological development.

The efforts made at Bletchley Park finally allowed the Allies to win the war

“With the combined strength of our international partners, the AI industry and the academic community, we can guarantee the rapid international action we need for the safe and responsible development of AI worldwide,” said British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The place of the summit is remarkable because it is of historical importance in the field of information technology and innovation, mainly due to its role as a decryption center during the Second World War.

Bletchley Park, in Buckinghamshire, was the site of the decryption of the German Enigma code during the Second World War. The efforts made at Bletchley Park finally allowed the Allies to win the war.

“It is only fitting that the very place where great minds harnessed emerging technologies to influence the outcome of the Second World War is, once again, the melting pot of coordinated international action,” said Iain Standen, Chief executive of the Bletchley Park Trust.

Alan Turing is one of the most outstanding personalities to have worked at Bletchley Park. He was one of the main designers of the Bomb, a machine used to decrypt the encrypted messages sent by the Enigma machine during the war.

Turing is also considered a forerunner in the field of computer science. He is the creator of the Turing machine, which is considered the first conceptualization of a computer.

Bletchley Park is now a museum that welcomes more than 250,000 visitors a year.
