Generative AI, a daily tool for 51% of French employees
In the first part of its study published in July, GetApp, a subsidiary of the Gartner research firm, measured the place occupied today by generative artificial intelligence in the professional setting.
The French employees were thus less excited than their neighbors. 29% considered these tools important in their work, compared to 51%, 36% and 34% respectively in Germany, Spain and Italy. According to the figures of the second part of the study, however, generative AI seems to have imposed itself in everyday life.
Generate complete texts and analyze data
The most widespread solution, ChatGPT has its followers. 51% of respondents in France use it daily. 31% report using it several times a week. And not surprisingly, it is the generation of text that prevails in terms of use.
42% of the users of the OpenAI application use it for the writing of complete texts. But ChatGPT also finds its place as a companion in data analysis (for 31%), presentation creation (27%), project management (27%), idea generation (25%) and email writing (24%).
But is there satisfaction at the rendezvous? The answer is yes for 94% of the employees surveyed who find the results provided convincing or very convincing. However, the phenomenon of hallucinations is no stranger to users.
A perceived risk of over-dependence
Thus, even if they are satisfied with the answers, 98% assure to check them … at least partially. Indeed, 47% say they reread each answer carefully before using it. On the other hand, 48% do not carry out a systematic control.
Nevertheless, for the authors of the study, the French employees of ChatGPT are aware of the risks of the application, and not only of these advantages. 45% say they save time and 44% improve work processes thanks to AI.
At the same time, 36% express concern about their excessive dependence on this platform to complete certain tasks. 31% identify a dehumanization of communication modes and 30% are worried about a hacking of ChatGPT.
ChatGPT job destroyer?
What about the fear of employees being replaced by the machine? ChatGPT’s performance is praised, with 90% believing that AI is able to compete with human creations. Of these, however, 62% express reservations.
However, 44% of them perceive “job replacement as the main ethical concern related to this technology.”In addition, for 65%, generative AI could replace them in their work today.
But not on the whole of their activity. For these respondents, AI could replace them in the amount of 11 to 30% of their tasks. 18% consider that this share could fluctuate between 31 and 50%.
