New 27-inch iMac: it’s dead, what alternative?
Last week, Apple held its Scary Fast event, during which it unveiled its latest Macs. But one star remained absent from the presentation. The 27-inch iMac was not mentioned. Enough to feel a feeling of loss by many Apple aficionados who appreciated the advantages of a large screen and an integrated computer. And now Apple confirms that this loss is irretrievable.
During the event, Apple announced that its 24-inch iMac M1 would be replaced by an M3 processor. But nothing on the 27-inch.
An Apple PR executive has since confirmed to The Verge that the 27-inch screen will not be returning.
Go to the Display Studio
From 2022, Apple presented products that carry its own Apple chip. The company was then starting to launch its 27-inch iMac, which was the last of its models with an Intel chip.
So Apple is now encouraging users who want a larger screen to consider options such as the Studio Display, which has a 27-inch screen.
However, the Studio Display must be paired with a separate computer, such as the Mac Studio or the Mac Mini, to obtain the same features as the iMac. And this implies an additional cost and device.
Unlinking the computer from the screen, it can be good
But despite these disadvantages, being forced to buy the screen and the computer separately if you want a larger screen can turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Because one of the main problems that users of 27-inch iMacs with an Intel chip face is that the screen became obsolete much earlier than the computer itself.
Above all, the fact of dissociating the computer from the screen allows you to reconfigure the display, add new screens, hang them on screen supports and modify the workspace as and when your needs.
For all 27-inch iMac lovers who still want to benefit from the convenience of a 2-in-1, there is still the option of the 24-inch iMac which, for all intents and purposes, is not much smaller in terms of screen size and has Apple’s latest M3 processor, with better performance.
